From February 7, 2026 to November 15, 2026 Pétanque!

Where: FRAC SUD Marseille 2nd arrondissement

When: February 7, 2026 to November 15, 2026

In Marseille, in the heart of the Old Port district, the Frac Sud presents an immersive exhibition that invites visitors to look up at the sky and ponder the origins of the universe. Franco-Brazilian artists Angela Detanico and Rafael Lain present a fascinating body of work exploring stars, light, and the birth of celestial bodies.

For over twenty years, this duo has been developing a unique artistic approach to how we perceive the world. Their work blends visual art, language, and science.

By creating their own systems of forms and graphic alphabets, they offer a new interpretation of our environment, time, and space, transforming symbols and signs into veritable visual landscapes. The exhibition entitled "Starry Field," presented at the Frac Sud in Marseille, takes the form of a vast art installation inspired by their project "The Flowering of Light," unveiled during the Marcel Duchamp Prize at the Centre Pompidou. The works created for this occasion are presented here alongside other creations exploring the themes of the cosmos, stars, and the formation of the universe. The exhibition's layout leads the visitor on a true cosmic exploration. Between fields of stars, floral forms, and plays of light evoking the moon and the sun, the installation recounts the journey of light through time and the ages of creation. This poetic and scientific approach invites everyone to slow down and become aware of the immensity of time and the universe. By blending scientific references, mythology, and the history of Earth's formation, the works of Angela Detanico and Rafael Lain offer a contemplative and immersive experience. An invitation to marvel, to observe the sky, and to see the world around us in a new light. If you are staying in a hotel in Marseille near the Old Port and the city center, a visit to the Frac Sud is an excellent cultural outing. Located just minutes from the main tourist attractions, this contemporary art space allows you to discover an ambitious artistic program while enjoying the unique atmosphere of central Marseille.

from October 28, 2026 to April 12, 2027 Cosquer Cave

Location: MuCEM Marseille

When: October 28, 2026 to April 12, 2027

In Marseille, the Mucem presents an original exhibition that questions our relationship to images and symbols. Conceived by Jérémie Koering, professor at the University of Fribourg, in collaboration with Raphaël Bories, curator at the Mucem in charge of the Beliefs and Religions department, this exhibition explores a surprising idea: that of "eating" images.

The idea may seem strange at first. Yet, since Antiquity, and particularly in European and Mediterranean cultures, images have not simply been looked at. They can also be symbolically or physically integrated into the lives of societies.

The exhibition invites visitors to understand why certain cultures have chosen to incorporate images rather than simply contemplate them. Through a rich and surprising journey, visitors discover the multiple meanings of this practice. Integrating an image into oneself can be a meaningful gesture: seeking protection, obtaining healing, undergoing transformation, or transmitting knowledge. In other contexts, this gesture can also become an act of resistance, play, belief, or belonging to a community. The exhibition highlights the diversity of the imaginaries surrounding these practices. Religion, philosophy, literature, art, and politics intersect to explain the unique place of images in the history of Mediterranean societies. The exhibition alternates between symbolic approaches and concrete examples, showing how images can be metaphorically "incorporated" or sometimes actually consumed. This original exploration offers a fresh perspective on how human beings have interacted with visual representations for centuries. If you are staying in a hotel in Marseille near the Old Port and the city center, a visit to the Mucem is a must. Located facing the sea and easily accessible from the main tourist areas, this iconic Marseille museum regularly hosts exhibitions that provide a deeper understanding of the history, cultures, and traditions of the Mediterranean.

from March 18 to August 31, 2026 Good mothers

Exhibition: March 18 to August 31, 2026

Location: MuCEM Marseille

In Marseille, the Mucem presents an exhibition dedicated to a universal and profoundly human theme: motherhood. Conceived by Caroline Chenu, a researcher at the Mucem, and Anne-Cécile Mailfert, president of the Women's Foundation, this exhibition invites visitors to discover how the maternal figure has traversed centuries and shaped Mediterranean cultures.

For millennia, motherhood has occupied a central place in stories, traditions, and artistic representations. The "Good Mothers" exhibition explores this theme from different angles: personal experience, social construct, political issue, and source of artistic inspiration. Through artworks, objects, and testimonies from the Mediterranean world, the exhibition offers a rich reflection on the diversity of maternal experiences. Visitors first discover the major symbolic figures associated with motherhood. From the mother goddesses of Antiquity to the famous "Good Mother" who watches over Marseille from the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde basilica, these representations have long embodied ideals and values passed down from generation to generation. The exhibition then focuses on the concrete realities of mothers' lives. Behind the idealized images lie multiple, sometimes invisible, journeys that bear witness to the complexity of the maternal experience. The contemporary artworks presented in the exhibition highlight these varied experiences and the social expectations often associated with the role of mother. The final part of the exhibition explores the profound bonds that unite mothers and their children. Transmission, heritage, family memory: these are all essential dimensions that show how mother-child relationships contribute to the development of individuals and societies. The luminous and immersive scenography guides visitors through this sensitive and thoughtful journey. It highlights the intimate, physical, and symbolic dimensions of motherhood, while paying tribute to these often discreet yet fundamental maternal figures in the history of societies. If you are staying in a hotel in Marseille near the Old Port and the city center, a visit to the Mucem is an excellent opportunity to discover the city's rich cultural heritage. Easily accessible from the main tourist areas, this iconic Marseille museum offers exhibitions that provide a deeper understanding of the history and cultures of the Mediterranean while enjoying an exceptional setting overlooking the sea.

From May 20th to August 9th, 2026 A Mediterranean succession

Location: MuCEM Marseille

Dates: May 20 to August 9, 2026

As part of the Mediterranean Season, the Parallèle association and L’École(s) du Sud are partnering with four members of the MIRAMAR network—the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts, the DARET center, the National Institute of Fine Arts of Tetouan, and Les Ateliers Sauvages—to present the exhibition A Mediterranean Next Generation. Curated by Soukaina Aboulaoula, this project brings together sixteen emerging artists from the Mediterranean region.

This collective and transdisciplinary exhibition is the culmination of an artist residency program organized within the higher art schools that are members of the MIRAMAR network.

For several months, these artists were able to exchange ideas, work, and create within the local art scenes, fostering encounters, collaborations, and the sharing of experiences among young creators from different Mediterranean regions. Presented in Marseille, this exhibition highlights the vitality and diversity of the new generation of artists from around the Mediterranean. It offers visitors the opportunity to discover a variety of contemporary practices, nourished by the cultures, landscapes, and issues that are currently shaping Mediterranean societies. If you are staying in a hotel in Marseille near the Old Port and the city center, this exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to discover the contemporary art scene while enjoying the city's unique cultural atmosphere. Located just minutes from the main tourist attractions, it fits perfectly into a Marseille itinerary.
